Office Environment:
We invest in each other's growth by creating an environment where feedback is constant, encouraged, and rewarded and happens in all directions: mentor to mentee, mentee to mentor, and across teams. Feedback is the key to building a culture of winning rather than a culture of competition. When the team wins, we all win. We give shoutouts every week during all-team meetings, have a specific kudos Slack channel for congratulating employees at all times, and provide financial incentives to meet OKRs and give feedback. We include personal life goals in KPIs (e.g. call parents 2x per week, surf 3x per week, mediate 5x per week, learn origami, etc.). We work hard to protect our teammates’ personal time by having them block it off in their calendars and covering for them during those hours. Employees have flexible schedules which allows for midweek travel, working remotely from anywhere, and working on a schedule that makes sense for the individual. Working at a startup that is creating foundational change (technology that will change how the world views climate change) is not easy and can certainly be demanding. We don’t want our employees to burn out, so we make sure people take time off and reserve time to spend doing the things they love (family, surfing, etc.). Employees block that time on their calendars, and the team respects and protects that time. We also wrap personal time off, as well as other personal goals such as hobbies, into KPIs (key performance indicators) and make sure that everyone respects this dedicated time. We offer unlimited time off with a mandatory minimum to ensure that employees take vacation. We will shut off employees’ emails if they don’t take vacation. Only a note from the CEO can exempt them.
Our team is based in San Francisco, but has employees from all over the US, and offices in Mexico, Europe, and Asia. We are intentionally built a diverse and representative company - we are hiring for diversity and have our diversity metrics improve Q over Q. Women and people of color are represented at the highest levels of quality. Yet, we are not willing to compromise on quality. We, therefore, work harder to have more diversity in the intake of our recruiting funnel, yet will hire the best-fit candidate for the role. No one was hired just because they are from an underrepresented group, your peers were hired because they are the best in what they do! We are sensitive to other cultures' differences - note that what’s expected in one culture might be offensive, or totally unacceptable in another. We work to foster an inclusive and respectful company culture, in terms of educating and working with our team to get everyone on the ClimateAi boat. But discrimination, violence etc., are never acceptable and are fireable offenses.
ClimateAi is building a best-in-class climate platform that tackles the biggest challenge of our generation: climate change. We are a new type of climate-tech startup on a mission to urgently and fundamentally improve how the world adapts to climate change. We work with forward-thinking companies, scientists, and governments to build more resilient supply chains and secure food production. Our cutting-edge technology is revolutionary and would be an exciting challenge to any software engineer. We are growing quickly and seeing adoption given market and regulatory tailwinds, an exciting proposition for any business professional. We also walk the walk in terms of climate: we only work with companies dedicated to making an impact on climate change, turning away oil and gas companies who wish to work with us. We embody our mission, and mission-driven talent will appreciate that.
For our revolutionary AI forecasting technology, which is patented and reduces long-term forecast uncertainty by average 85% relative to best-available alternatives.
For our impact: Fifteen companies in food/agriculture alone use the tool across 42 crops in 16 countries — indirectly impacting over 15 million farmers/agricultural workers. (We have more than 20 total customers, in other sectors such as energy, finance, and retail.)
For our ambition: We plan to deploy our tool on over 150 crops in 55 countries until we help all 1.1 billion smallholder farmers impacted by climate change around the world.
For our culture: We always maintain empathy, while pushing each other to be our best. We support each other’s success, but also our teammates’ personal needs (family time, hobbies, passions), personal challenges (mental health), and we always celebrate failures (as long as we learn something). We are building a system where we are all constantly improving, and innovation and creativity are ample. We believe it boosts our financial performance, our relationships with customers, our relationships with one another, and our ability to attract talent.
