How do you show employees you appreciate them?

At Sparrow, we believe that every career is built on a series of small moments and feelings – moments that show you whether a team is inclusive, collaborative, and helpful. To this end, Sparrow builds these moments into each day:

- To ensure transparency and understanding, we have a monthly all-hands meeting.

- To get to know our leaders, we regularly interview 1-2 teammates in a fireside chat. 

- We gather weekly to celebrate moments where we felt supported by our teammates.

- We intentionally carve out time each week to connect with other Sparrows in small groups.

- We have a #wins channel, where the entire team celebrates individual achievements several times daily.

How are you creating a workplace of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging?

To create and maintain a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, every team needs to build their training and processes with that in mind. At Sparrow, there are several ways we do this:

- Intentionally source candidates from a variety of sources 

- Design interviews to be skills-based to minimize bias

- Help individuals to mentor one another 

- Encourage people to share their thoughts and ideas in pulse surveys, office hours, and 1:1s

- Proactively train managers and leaders in how to objectively evaluate peers in 360 reviews

Our team representation currently consists of 55% women, 45% racial minorities, and 15% people who identify as LBGTQIA+. Additionally, we have teammates in 25 states and counting.

Why should someone work at your company?

Sparrow is mission-driven. We are helping People Operations teams care for employees during major life-events, and we are ensuring that those employees do not need to choose between the people they love and a job that they love. We take getting the right people in the right roles very seriously, and to this end, we invest in the team’s growth. Our new hire onboarding provides 1-3 weeks of training (depending on the role), and each new hire is paired with a mentor to provide individual support. We work very cross-functionally, and we support everyone in learning about areas outside of their core expertise. Finally, Sparrow is building something special that is truly making people’s lives better. It’s exciting to be able to build a solution that has such an incredible impact.
